Job Title:     Engineering Buyer

Due to this success and sustained growth, they are now recruiting for an experienced Engineering Buyer to join our multi-discipline team, to lead the delivery of a range of exciting machinery-based projects.

The Role:

As an Engineering Buyer, you will play a critical role in the procurement process, focusing specifically on sourcing and purchasing materials, components, and equipment necessary for engineering projects, working to ensure on-time delivery of correct parts.
This role requires a combination of technical expertise, negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of engineering specifications. You will collaborate closely with the engineering team, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and source materials, components, and equipment required for engineering projects.
  • Evaluate potential suppliers, considering factors such as quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain.
  • Technical understanding of manufacturing and engineering requirements
  • Work closely with designers and engineering team to understand project requirements and technical speciation’s.
  • Cost negotiation - Negotiate pricing and contract terms with suppliers to ensure cost effectiveness and competitive advantage.
  • Ensure safe working practices including delivery of documentation and UKCA / CE certification of each system
  • Stock and delivery management to ensure business goals are met and timescales adhered to.
  • Planning of aftersales support

 

 

 

Key Tasks

KPIs

  • Plan project timescales to meet business requirements
  • Delivery of projects on time
  • All BOMs to be within budget
  • Work with project lead to achieve the target GP for every project
  • Generate quantifiable value for money for the business

Technical Understanding:

  • Work closely with the engineering team to understand project requirements and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify suitable materials and components.

Cost Negotiation:

  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms with suppliers to ensure cost effectiveness and competitive advantage.
  • Analyze market trends and industry pricing to make informed negotiation decisions.

Vendor management:

  • Monitor and assess supplier performance, addressing any issues related to quality, delivery or any other contractual obligations.

Purchase order management:

  • Generate purchase order accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring alignment with project timelines.
  • Assist in tracking and managing order status, resolving and supply chain issues during the procurement process.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks in the supply chain and implement strategies to mitigate them.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, including engineering, project management and finance to align procurement activities with project goals.
  • Communicate effectively with management and wider team providing updates on procurement status addressing any concerns.

 

Qualifications and skills:

  • Degree or equivalent in engineering, Supply chain management, or a related field
  • Proven experience in procurement, specifically engineering or technical setting.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to analyse technical specifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Omnis and Sigma software – not essential as training can be given.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations and best practises in procurement.
  • Knowledgeable use of MS office products, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
